Under the Immigration law, to lawfully enter the United States, an individual must be inspected by an immigration officer at the port of entry and lawfully admitted or paroled into the U.S. Individuals who enter without inspection, known as EWI, are deportable.
There are very limited circumstances that will enable someone to remain lawfully in the United States who is here as EWI.
